Silverbird Ghana Showing 12 years of slavery

12 years a slave is a 2013 historical drama film from britain and also an adaptation of the 1853 memoir of Solomon Northup of the same name. It start with a new york state free negro born who was kidnapped in Washinton D.C in 1841 and sold into slavery. For twelve years he worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana before he was released. The film feature was directed by Steve McQueen and was written by John Ridley. Chiwetel Ejiofor the Nigerian writer starred in the leading role of Northup.

The main photography started in New Oleans, Louisiana from 27th June to 13th August 2012 on a budget of $20 million The locations for the shoot were antebellum plantations felicity, Magnolia, Bocage and Destrehan.

12 years a slave was named the best film of the year by serveral media outlets and was also awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture and Drama. It also received 9 academy Award nominations with Best Picture, Best Director for McQueen, Best Actor for Ejiofor, Best Supporting Actor for Fassbender, and Best Supporting Actress for Nyong'o.

Movie Plot Summary:

In the year 1841, a free negro (Chiwetel Ejiofor) as Solomon Northup is working as a skilled carpenter and fiddle player living with his wife and two children in Saratoga Springs, New York. He is tricked by two men who offer him job as a musician but waked up in chains after they drugged him to sell him into slavery. Northup is shipped to New Orleans, renamed as Platt and given an identity of a runaway slave from Georgia. He is also beaten repeatedly and is sold to William Ford (Benedict Cumberbatch). There Northup engineers and creates a waterway for transporting logs faster and cost effectively to the downstream which mand Ford the slave master presents him with a violin as a gratitude.

Tibeats who is a Racist attacks Northup and he fights back in retaliation. Then Tibeats and friends plan to lynch Northup but are driven away my the master Ford.

Ford decides to sell Northup to Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender). Ford explains that he cannot bear this and responds he has a debt to pay on Northups purchase price.
Epps requires his slaves to pick up 200 pounds of cotton every day or be beaten. Patsey a young female (Lupita Nyong'o) picks over 500 pounds and is praised lavishly and coveted lustfully by Epps who repeatedly rapes her. Epps wife (Sarah Paulson) envy's the attention he gives to the Patsey and abuses the girl violently at every opportunity after Epps publicly declares the he'd choose the slave girl over his wife.
Patsey asks Northup's help in committing suicide but he refuses. Silverbird ghana will be showing 12 years o slavery at the weija centre and the accra mall.
